Lentera Africa (www.lenterafrica.com) was awarded the Afric’up Summit 2019 startup of the year after winning the finals of the pitch competition.
Lentera Africa is a Kenyan agritech startup that enables farmers to increase their productivity through aerospace technology. Using satellite imaging, drones and ground-based sensors, farmers receive alerts via SMS and mobile app with practical insights such as when to plant, when to irrigate and when to scout for pests and diseases. Lentera is also one of the 10 startups selected by Airbus to join the Bizlab aerospace accelerator program. Using predictive algorithms, farmers are better able to adapt to changing climatic conditions and increase their chances for success.
“We are deeply honored to have won the Afric’up Pitch competition. This is a win for all innovators working to solve important challenges such as zero hunger and improved health outcomes. I’m particularly delighted that the kind of technology we are deploying at Lentera brings innovation and excitement back to the African farmer and puts food security at the forefront of the digital economy in Africa.” Moses Kimani, founder and CEO.
Lentera is also an alumni of the E4Impact accelerator and the Land acelerator programs.
